vCenter 5.1 does not see Host CPU Host Mem or Guest Mem on 4.0 hosts

Posted on 11:23 AM by Unknown

Interesting thread: http://communities.vmware.com/message/2141730

According to SubterraneanH…
"On the 4.0 ESX hosts, we do not see the CPU/Host Mem or Guest Mem performance stats.  They all show "0".

In the case of gumbyblake it affects "ESX 4.0 Update 1a hosts, and Update 4 hosts."

He found the answer from vmware :: Upgrade to 4.1
Eventual response from VMWare Support for the issue:

"In vsphere 5.1 release there is a memory compression(zipped memory  stats) check that was introduced.  The "zipped" counter stores the stats  from the Memory Compression for the VM. This feature was introduced in vSphere  4.1 and is not available for prior release. Absence of this feature/counter in  ESX/ESXi 4.0 is causing the vCenter to drop the stats while performing the  zipped memory check.
Prior to 5.1(vCenter) releases never checked  for this "zipped memory" counter, Hence did not encounter this issue.

The workaround is to upgrade the ESX/ESXi hosts running 4.0 to 4.1 or  later."
Regards
